WA news LIVE: WA premier ‘very anxious’ about state election; Ambulance flips onto side in Balga car crash

Both sides of politics have drawn battle lines on health, housing and their respective vision for the future of WA and now there is not much left to do but wait as West Australians cast their votes.

WA Premier Roger Cook joined the Today Show this morning for one of the final pitches before the polls close tomorrow evening.
He said he was “very anxious” about the election results but that the campaign he had run had been “strong and honest”.
“Every election is an anxious time. It’s a time when we are essentially re-applying for our jobs,” he said.
“But we have a vision about how we take this state forward.”
When questioned on whether victory would be important in helping him emerge from the shadows of former Premier Mark McGowan, Cook said he had never felt he was “under Mark’s shadow”.
He was also asked if he was “relieved” the prime minister would be unable to join WA Labor on Saturday due to Cyclone Alfred.
“Not at all,” Cook responded. “The prime minister is a good friend and a great colleague and a huge supporter of Western Australia.

“We’re obviously disappointed he can’t join us at the end of this week, but our thoughts are out there for the people in Queensland. In WA, we know all too well the impact of cyclones on our state.”
The leader of the country has been ousted in WA largely for his stance on banning live exports – something Cook has been quick to point out he was against, but that he would work with farmers on to make the transition smoother.
Stay tuned with us tomorrow – we’ll bring you updates throughout the day as the results roll in.
