Five people have been charged in connection with the death of a dad following an attack in a pub.

Matthew Adams, 33, was assaulted at the Gough Arms in Jowetts Lane, West Bromwich, in the early hours of 19 March last year.

Mark Shorthouse, 53, Ryan Stanley, 30, John Wise, 42, and a 16-year-old boy, all from West Bromwich, are accused of murder and violent disorder.

Nichola Stanley, 39, has been charged with violent disorder.

Mr Adams, from Walsall, had gone home following the incident.

An ambulance was called on 23 March and he died in hospital that day, West Midlands Police said.

A tribute by his family said the loss had left their “world shattered and hearts broken”.

The son, brother, partner, friend and father-of-two was known to many as Wacka, they added.

“Matt left a lasting impression with everyone he met with his funny, loving and carefree ways,” a statement read.

The defendants are due to appear at Birmingham Crown Court on Monday.
